University of Notre Dame Visitation Window

Notre Dame, Indiana

The center panel of this triptych depicts the visit of Mary with her cousin Elizabeth. John the Baptist is holding a banner proclaiming, "Behold the Lamb of God," while Jesus has His hands outstretched in welcome. Additional windows in the chapel depict the symbols of the Eucharist, the dove of the Holy Spirit and the seals of the University of Notre Dame and the Congregation of Holy Cross.

These original windows were designed and crafted by CSS artisans using a variety of glass and techniques. The roses, a symbol of Mary, were created using a Tiffany-Style copper foil method. This technique lends itself to the soft, feminie shapes and delicate lines in the images. The panels were produced using a combination of glass, including antiques and cathedrals from around the world and opalescent glass produced in Kokomo, Indiana.
