UND Cedar Grove Mausoleum

Notre Dame, Indiana

The University of Notre Dame’s Our Lady of Sorrows mausoleum complex has been expanded with a fifth mausoleum, Mary, Gate of Heaven. Conrad Schmitt Studios was honored to design a new series of sacred mosaics that enrich this space. The project features eight exterior mosaic roundels positioned beneath the roofline and two monumental interior mosaics.

NORTH & SOUTH RONDEL

The mosaics on the north side of the mausoleum feature The Gate of Heaven (left), with the south side featuring The Morning Star (right).

EAST RONDEL

The mosaics on the east side of the mausoleum feature the three Archangels: Saint Michael at the center, flanked by Saint Gabriel (left) and Saint Raphael (right).

WEST RONDEL

The mosaics on the west side of the mausoleum depict the Sacred Heart of Jesus, flanked by the Immaculate Heart of Mary (left) and the Chaste Heart of Saint Joseph (right).

MAUSOLEUM INTERIOR

Two interior floor-to-ceiling mosaics depict Our Lady of Lourdes on the north side (left) and Our Lady of Guadalupe on the south side (right).  Both are standing tall at a little over  8ft. x 10ft.
