SAcred Heart Catholic Church
polonia, Wisconsin
For more than 150 years, Sacred Heart Catholic Church has stood as a cornerstone of faith, culture, and education in Polonia, Wisconsin. The current church, completed in 1934 after a series of devastating fires, is a testament to the perseverance and devotion of its parishioners. With its historic architecture and symbolic interior, it reflects both the resilience of the community and the beauty of their worship traditions.
Conrad Schmitt Studios was privileged to partner with the parish in restoring this sacred space. The project included plaster restoration, decorative painting, conservation of the Stations of the Cross and baptismal font, and the creation of new murals.
A thoughtfully developed palette of light yet saturated tones now fills the church with a sense of peace and illumination. Murals and decorative treatments introduce symbolic motifs that embody the parish’s enduring faith, offering worshippers a vision of heaven on earth. At the center of the design is the triumphal arch inscription from John 17:21a — “All of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you.” Rendered in Polish, this text honors the cultural heritage of the founding community while deepening the connection between past and present generations.
Through this restoration, Sacred Heart Catholic Church reclaims its historic beauty while providing a renewed environment for prayer and celebration. The integration of artistry, symbolism, and heritage ensures that the parish’s legacy will continue to inspire for generations to come — a living testament to its history and faith.
