St. Peter Catholic Church
Lincoln, Nebraska
Built in 1991, the church was designed in the Post Modern style, with decoration inspired by the Basilica of Saint Apollinare in Ravenna, Italy. The Holy Spirit window and the marble floors are nods to St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome. The new decoration includes twenty-four murals: twelve scenes from the Old Testament and twelve featuring the apostles with their instruments of martyrdom. Twelve new stained glass windows feature scenes from the life of St. Peter. Above it all, a celestial ceiling twinkles with 4,000 gilded stars.
