Challenge

Conserve a number of stained glass panels gracing the Zion Evangelical United Church of Christ in Indianapolis, Indiana. The original glass was created in the style of Tiffany Studios’ stained glass. Characteristics of this type of glass include pastoral imagery and the use of drapery glass, plating and finely painted detail. These elements create special conservation challenges.

Solution

At the Studio, the windows were photographed, documented and dismantled. Conditions of individual pieces were analyzed before being assigned appropriate treatments.

With the conservation of the windows complete, the beautiful stained glass, now reinstalled, illustrates events in the life of Christ.
